#416 closed defect (fixed)

Xinha uses different comment syntax from browsers

Description

HTML comments are more complex than I realized:

http://www.htmlhelp.com/reference/wilbur/misc/comment.html

This came up when a client created a document with comments that looked like <!---------------- START --------------->, which happened to be an unterminated comment (I guess there was an odd number of --'s).

However, in Xinha this was treated a well-formed comment. As a result content showed up in the editor that wouldn't display in the browser normally.

Due to the confusing nature of HTML/SGML comments, it might be best to simply detect --'s inside a comment and it into ==. While it's a bug that Xinha doesn't interpret comments the same way the very browser does (even the browser Xinha is embedded in), I think avoiding the whole issue by eliminating poorly understood comment syntax is better.

I dont think the initial poster was talking about comments in the full example. I think he is talking about comments inside the editor area of Xinha itself.
