FF3B3 and popups

Reported by: guest Owned by: gogo
Priority: normal Milestone: 0.95
Component: Xinha Core Version: trunk
Severity: normal Keywords:

By default windows in FF3B3 aren't allowed to resize themselves. Therefore all popups will need to be the correct size to begin with.

I think WONTFIX this.

See bugzilla bug at: 412862

For these reasons:

  1. We can't accurately predict the size of the window required before it is created and loaded with content. We can make a best guess, based on the usual font sizes etc that people use, but the only way to accurately get a size, is to open the window, fill it with the required content, and find out how big that content renders as, then resize the window to shrink-wrap it.
  2. It's not at all clear that this "feature" of FF is going to stay in it's current form.
  3. This new "feature" of FF is stupid and annoying and will "break" many many (many many many) things other than Xinha. 412862 has a handful of sites in the last comment which are fairly high profile for example.
  4. This new "feature" of FF appears to be trying to patch some secret security problem in FF and perhaps they will come up with a better solution ( "We need a real fix for bug 329385 so it isn't so dangerous for users to allow script resizes :(" - Jesse Ruderman )
  5. Even if the moz developers really do let this into a general release, there will at least be a whitelist function, and in the worst case the user can manually resize the window (since 177838).

I just posted on bugzilla - I hope they change this behaviour.

One thing xinha could do is make the default window size bigger. at the moment it is always going to be way too small for any content. popup is better to be too big than too small.
